Final Fantasy III (Nintendo DS) --Worth the wait!

Final Fantasy III was, until now, the only game in the franchise not released in the U.S. The graphics were completely overhauled to utilize the graphic abilities of the Nintendo DS. Square did a wonderful job remaking this game for the handheld DS.

The game itself is not as character driven as some of the later FF games, but is very well written. The job class system creates a lot of party configuration possiblities once you earn them. In the beginning you only have one possible class, but as you advance through the game you get more. There are only a few sidequests available, that can only be accessed if you send/recieve mail to/from the denizens of FFIII.

The battle system is typical. Turn-based, random battles.

Overall, this is a great RPG. I recommend this one to any FF fans and anyone seeking a good RPG. This is the first great RPG for this system. Could this be a turning-point for the DS?

I had never played Final Fantasy until a couple of years ago and I am saddened that I had missed out on it until then! I owned a Super Nintendo when I was little but always played the Mario games and never tried these. I highly recommend you play it and own it but I will warn you it's very addicting!

This game has been wonderfully recreated from the older version complete with wonderful music, great graphics, and admitably adorable characters. The plot line has stayed the same throughout the game (as far as I can tell from the JP version) and the monsters and characters are basically the same, but this game's major facelift has amazed me. So much from the 8 bit graphics that it used to be, now 3-d and totally kick-well, you know. An awesome game, recommended to gamers of all ages.

  Square Enix Rarely Disappoints!

The remake of classic FF3 kept the wonderful story line and job system and add improved graphics with some interesting online quests made the already wonderful game even more enjoyable.

While the newer FFs are great, it took away the job system that made the series appealing. In FF3, you may freely develop your characters however you want. The possibilities for jobs and abilities are endless. It allows the players to be creative and experiment with their players with total freedom.

Although I wish the game would utilize the unique dual screen DS has to offer, but the game is still fun to play 2 screens or not. Having spent countless hours playing the old FF series in front of my TV, the ability to bring FF with me definitely make the game more appealing. It allows people who have played the game before to enjoy an even better experience with the game in smaller chunks, while attract new players, especially younger generation with graphics and fun storyline.

In conclusion, FF series has come a long way from its super nintendo days to the fancy graphics we see today, but FF3 remain fun and additive for all players of all ages.

  FF3 - DS

The character building is similar to Final Fantasy Tactics on Playstation. The idea of FF3 DS is not original, but for the first FF series on DS, it deserves a 3 out of 5. Nice Graphics, smooth controls, Game play is average.

  Final Fantasy III is GREAT!!!

Well, I am a Final Fantasy FREAK!! I love the game and all it has to offer. Hours of gameplay, strategies, sidquests, the occasional mini game. THe characters and story lines of each game is unique and compelling. The battle systems of each title differ which makes them all worth playing. This particular title was good in the sense it has never been released in the US, and it has come in 3D!! The added benefit of being on a handheld system makes it an even greater title because you can take the adventure wherever you go. I travel a lot, so this is a plus for me. Thanks to Square Enix for the game and thanks to the seller who made getting this game for me possible.

  An exemplary RPG for DS

Final Fantasy III is a solid product. The shortcomings with the saves and lack of DS tech infusion are unfortunate, but as an RPG it’s the real deal, and shows why the franchise is so revered. We’re glad they resurrected Final Fantasy III, but they also brought back all the problems RPG makers have spent years solving. It doesn’t do anything new for RPGs, but at least it serves to remind us how far they’ve come. In the end, if you're a fan of RPGs, the kind of person Square Enix wants to pick up this game, you're going to like Final Fantasy III.

Once players start to acquire more and more interesting jobs, allowing a varied number of party customizations, the game begins to come into its own as yet another enjoyable, well-polished Final Fantasy title that any Nintendo DS RPG fan would be proud to own.

The fact that you can play the game using just the stylus and touch screen just adds to the new feeling, and after playing this way—it’s hard to think that eventually someday players would have to go back to pressing buttons when playing RPG’s.

It also helps that the game looks and sounds great, so if you can deal with the random battles and repetitive turn-based combat, you're in for a treat that should entertain for months to come.

  Gameplay

I enjoy Final Fantasy III a lot. I've played about 10 hours of it so far and thoroughly enjoy the gameplay and the plot. The aspect of having many different jobs allows the game to be played in many different ways. In the old SNES Final Fantasy III (FF6 actually) You had characters that joined you along the way, many characters in fact, with each one having a different job. That was fun, very fun, but just a little too much to handle. With DS III it's much the same, except it involves a lot more strategy. You literally have to spend hours leveling up to fight the next major battles. The cinematics are very good as well. I think I'll enjoy playing this RPG, as I haven't played one in years.

This is by far the very best ds game I have played so far and I have played tons of ds games. This one has a great story line and tons of game play, like all Final Fantasy games there is alot of lev crunching but that is part of what makes FF the great series it is.

Interesting and full of variety. It does get a bit slow with all the battles you must fight but if you play in measured doses it stays fairly interesting

I'm having fun with it, it's an FF game, c'mon. If you enjoy RPG and the lil backnforth fights, it's cool. I read some negative stuff about it, but I bought it anyways, and it's cool. PEACE CRACKAZ!

I would love to tell you that this is the best game for nintendo ds - and i may be right. If you can tolerate the constant feeling of being lost, this is the game for you. I DARE you to try to play this without internet hints or some guide. This game is really pretty. Really really pretty, but the player is constantly lost and wondering where to go next. The class system is a bit obtuse. If you want this game to experience the final fantasy genre, get this used. There are plenty of people who get really frusturated with the final boss and thus put this game down forever. Get this used for about $30 if you can. No need to get this new unless you are a final fantasy nerd - which is fine. Good game, but NOT great.

FF3 was not worth the wait

Now I know why this title never hit american shores, it is not a good game. The graphics are really good but everything else sucks. The story takes forever to develope, There are no ethers, tents, or places to save in dungens, There are not enough weapons & armor to accommodate all the classes, and if that isn't enough I find myself caring more about the guest characters then THE MAIN CHARACTERS! If you are looking for a good FF game for the handhelds try FF4. Its probably the best FF game from the NES & SNES era.

great game, loving the updates made. square enix really knows what the player wants and really took care of the story as if it were a baby. its really great for kids or the kid in you. but for final fantasy fans across the land its amazing. is it up there with final fantasy 7? no, nothing will ever be but its somewhere up on that scale. very recommended to any and all lovers of the rpg and lovers of a great story and action.

Great game to pick up and play. Can be a little frustrating but who would play a game that is too easy? Graphics, music, story all good things about this game. Though the story can be a bit generic but hey you come with a new story layout. Young kid, new danger, kid must save world. Anyways great game pick it up and enjoy.

  Excellent game!
Review created: 03/01/10

This game is classic yet long at the same time. In this remake, I felt the characters were more that just sprites that killed there enemies, there lives had more meaning. I loved that about this game, but the game's classic element was not lost, which was also a good thing. I also like how you can chose between using the control pad and buttons on the DS and using your stylus to move the characters and choose their actions and targets in battle. This game's updates graphics look great as well. This game deserves a five out of five. Any RPG fan should play this game.
