Earthbound is quite possibly the best RPG Game ever. It had all the elements needed to make it a great game. It is a classic and it is more rare than other games. That is why the price is sometimes between $50 - $100. Of course it is more than some Xbox games. Xbox games can't even be compared to a game like earthbound. They are just too different. Just play it, you'll know why people are willing to pay so much.

This is my all-time favorite game! This brings to life the story of Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo in their adventure to save the world from the Evil Alien Overlord, Giygas! This game is full of comedy as well!

The game is great and all

But seriously, people go too crazy over it... I bet 90% of the people that bought this game didn't even know about it before Super Smash Bros. came out. Anyhow, I collect games from my childhood and that's really the only reason I was paying so much for it since I'm fond of my memories. The game has great music, alright graphics, good storyline, and it's funny, not to mention that the creator of the game and I have the same favorite band, The Beatles. Anyhow, the game is very fun and has obviously become an item for collectors of SNES games, possibly due to Super Smash Brothers which I am currently mad at for making a game a success for the worst possible reason ever and making it harder for me to find at a good price... I have searched long and hard for this game and finally decided to give in and buy it, and it only took 13 years

Also, proof that this game was very unpopular back when I was young is the fact that Mother 3 isn't being released into America, why? Because Mother 2/Earthbound didn't sell well. I only know 2 people in real life and online that have ever played Earthbound as a child. And they even say that they know very few people that played it before Super Smash Bros. The only reason I should thank Super Smash Bros for is helping me to remember the name of the game, though I would have gotten the name eventually considering I had a very good description of the game and knew one of the two people for a long time and he loved the game since he was young. I spend 2 of those 13 years trying to find the name of the game out.

I wanted to mention something else. I have more reason to care for this game than most people. First, it was a childhood memory of mine, second of all, the name of the game was after a John Lennon song, the leader of my favorite band, The Beatles. Third reason, as I stated before, I obsessed over the game because I forgot what it was about. Reason four, I play Super Nintendo like crazy, and if Earthbound was really "T3H GREATEST SUPER NINTENDO GAME EBER!" I would be playing it most often, why don't I? It's not that great.

I see some of these reviews, no offense, I'm sorry I don't usually talk about other's reviews, keep to myself, but this is just too bad, I would not do this unless it was because I have never bashed other's reviews before in my own, why? Because I don't think it's professional, but right now it's so very bad that I feel I have to, therefore, I shall. Forgive me.

"Earthbound like no other."

Play Dragon Quest. That's all I have to say to this one.

"BEST SNES RPG EVER!"

Yeah dude, I love Metal Gear Solid, but I don't say "IT'S THE BEST PLAYSTATION GAME EVER!" Probably because from a unbias perspective, it's not.

"Best Game"

It's not a rare game and I finally found out why. A HUGE amount of copies were mass produced in America, meaning you could find it under your toilet back in the day without buying it. Why would it be rare now? I'm pretty sure Earthbound didn't just leave Earth to fight off some aliens.

An RPG. Epic? Maybe not. Fun? Absolutely.

This one is accurate. The RPG is more fun than most RPGs on SNES. But from an overall standpoint, it isn't the greatest SNES game ever, I don't think personally that it deserves top 10. People treat this game like GOD created it. No offense, but it's not all that funny, I only laughed at the Beatles jokes. Fun game, just exaggerated, it's like people have only played THIS RPG and nothing else.

Earthbound is an RPG for the SNES that was released in 1995, towards the end of the SNES life. The grpahics are not incredible, as some people expect to see at the end of a systems life, butthey are not an eye sore either. The real meat of the game is the gameplay as with most RPGs. Instead of setting the game in some middle ages type fantasy world, as was the norm at the time, this game is set in a modern world of ATM's and UFO's. You will not always be fighting the usual RPG fare of slimes, and gargoyles, but you will have to take on hippies! The story is very funny, and the game is very long. The music is very good as well, with some memorable tracks. The only real downside to the game is the lack of replay value but it is an excellent game, well worth trying out for any fan of RPG's

i decided to purchase this game due to it being my younger brothers favorite rpg (most of us lean toward cronotrigger or ff3(6) as our first and fav) so i picked it up for a reasonable price and have thoroughly enjoyed it. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the durability of the cartridges of the past systems even the little battery that maintains your saves is still kickin cheers if you can locate and pick up this title

One of the greatest games ever made!

This little gem is a game that for whatever reason, did not sell as well as expected and fell off the radar. But I remember it from my gaming hey days, and I just knew I had to pick it up again. The game is notorious for having a story that's bland and trite, but that's just the point; if you would look into the story just a little more, you'd see just how detailed it truly is, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. The game is what it is... You're a young boy who is a natural born savior, and it's your journey to stop the evil Giygas from destroying the world. It's a quirky RPG that lives up to nearly every standard I've ever held for games. Expansive worlds to explore, witty, humorous story and dialogue, fun gameplay, and much much more. If you're a retro gamer who really enjoys RPGs and you've never heard of Earthbound, you should be ashamed of yourself. The music is truly top notch, and there are so many references to American culture that really take me back... Amazing game that doesn't need to take itself very seriously, and still remains enjoyable. PICK IT UP!

  Definitely Best Game for SNES

I can't even begin to describe how amazing this game is. Probably one of the most bizzare RPG's ever made; the characters are great, and you even get to enter your own personal favorites (food, names, etc) at the start of the game that will be plugged into the storyline. The music in this game was so good that i could definitely recognize it easily while i haven't played the game in forever. If you love RPGs, you seriously need to try this one!

Love the old RPG's? Then you'll love Earthbound for the Super NES. I have plaed this game ant it is awesome. your this kid who has a normal life until something from space comes to earth and its up to ness and his friends to save the earth from the invasion. The batttle systen is turn based, like most final fantasy games, and the overworld controls is much similar to playing the old Zelda games. Is you have a working Super NES then i suggest this game!

  It's called a collector's item.

The reasons Earthbound is sold for more than an XBox360 game is as follows:

1)Earthbound is commonly listed as one of the greatest console RPGs of all time by RPG enthusiast circles. (Note: Having played Final Fantasy 7-12 and Kingdom Hearts does NOT make you an RPG enthusiast)

2)Earthbound has been off market shelves for over 10 YEARS, almost as long as the SYSTEM used to play it on. Therefore, it is a collector's item. XBox 360 games are still available on entire aisles of stores.

3)Xbox puts out such awesome games that, if it were the only department Microsoft owned, they would have gone out of business before the XBox 360 was even in development.

Yeah, so #3 isn't really a direct reason. I just try to insert it wherever I can. =)

  Very Good game

This is a very original one of a kind game. I like almost everything about it. The only thing it lacks is sidequests, which in my mind is minimal. No random battle system, you get to see all of your enemies, and very memorable characters with extraordinary job classes. The storyline, ending, and gameplay, in my mind, 5/5. This is a great game. And an add to the first person who commented... The reason that this game is so expensive is because it is a rare one of a kind game, "xbox 360" games are not rare, and lack certain qualities that older games possess, like not all graphics and better gameplay.

i like this game for the super nintendo and it very fun and stuff but only thing that i dont get is when people think they can sell it more than a Xbox 360 game i dont know but i like the game and stuff for a 18 bit game its just hard to see maybe like sell for $5 or less but 50 or more is just ~CRAZY~
and my friend sold it for $3 to me and i think some people should come down on the price... maybe they think some idiot would say "Hey i found a cool game thats is on a system thats been out dated ill bid $100!" idk but ur not gonna get rich selling it like that...... start like 5.00 and people "COULD" bid like $50 but it crazy..

What I love about this game is the originality. You use an ATM card for money in this game for example. Also the storyline is funny and at times down right serious. You get awakened at night by a loud noise, you go to the top of the mountain and there's a mysterious hub of sorts. The cops tell all the kids to go home. But you continue your mission as you discover what's really going on. Aniway this game is well worth the cash.

Earthbound is a MUST HAVE for any gamer!
Review created: 08/03/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have been a HUGE fan of Ness since I was around six. Never owning a SNES at the time and only a PS1, I never got to experience Earthbound until I was in middle school. I owned a SNES at the time, but never could find Earthbound. Sadly disappointed, I tried multiple old video game stores and even current ones (Game Stop, etc.) if they perhaps had any. No such luck. Bidding on various items on Ebay, I lost quite a lot (mainly because I was poor at the time and couldn't pay for the high prices.) But when I finally got one though, I screamed and tackled the mailman as my game was being delivered.
But the main reasons why I absolutely love Earthbound and it is my favorite game ever is because everything about it is so memorable. Pokey asking Ness to get his brother and then being a chicken in battle. Digging through trashcans for food and then (eww) eating it when health is low. Even the other members of the Chosen Four were memorable. You can tell there is some quality about them that makes them different from others and has a special place in your heart, even when they all have to eventually split ways later, thus causing you to tear up and yearn to play it again. Earthbound has a LOT of stuff from our pop culture like the Beatles and Monty Python, and is chuck full of weird-but-funny stuff that will keep you occupied for hours. Yes, the graphics might not be so great compared to other games, but the storyline and characters make up for it a LOT.
The thing that touched me the most was the Gigyas battle. Nobody ever heard of little kids PRAYING to beat a scary devil man, yeah? So that was quite a surprise, and how the player (yes YOU) was the one who dealt the most damage was impressive too. Then when you arrive back in Saturn Valley and have to leave, you just want to cry because you have become so attached with these little pixelated characters that you just don't want them to go. So that's when you start the game over. and over. and over until you die of old age.
These are just some of the reasons why Earthbound has still remained in my heart for years and why I think you should buy it.

This game is definitely one of the most fun RPG games I have ever played. This game works on every level. While being humorous, this game still manages to keep an aura of drive and focus. It's battle system is simplistic, yet it fits so well.

What I really love about EarthBound is the fact that it changed up the norm of RPGs. Instead of taking place in a fantasy world with dragons and goblins, it takes place in modern day, with hippies and crazed dogs!

If you like games that are just plain fun, or if you love RPGs, play this game. It has a cult following for a reason!

This game is very fun & I recommend it,
but it is seriously ridiculous at how expensive it is.
I have been watching this game on Ebay for a while,
and judging from the number of listings, it ISN'T that
rare! I could understand how the complete boxed set could go for
$50-80, but in the core cartridge, it's just too much.
Much better deals elsewhere.

The overall game play is challenging and at times the game can be frustating.
To those who have never played Earthbound the price may seem steep but it is well worth the money. I am not a big RPG fan and I got into this game, so even if your not an RPG fan it is well worth playing.

Earthbound for the Super nintendo, is a good game, its a really good game. how ever it is not worth the ridiculous amount of money you would need to shell out in order to buy it, im talking around $60 for a decade old super nintendo game. sure its fun, very quirky, you will find yourself laughing here and there from start to finish, this game is really short and if you know how to play RPG's then you will have no problem beating this game in a couple days. if you can find this game for 30$ or less dont hasitate to purshase, but anything more is a waste of money. the only real problems with this game are a disgustingly horrible battle system, its in first person, which means that you can only see your enemies, not a smart move for a game in a genre in which battle visuals are 1/2 the game. this game also lacks a story, which is ESSENTIAL in any RPG its more like you complete a series of unrelated missions and then the games over. it is a breathe of fresh air seeing as how the game takes place in the present day, considering most RPG's take place in mystical worlds of dragons and warlocks and magical muffins. if your a fan of the genre this game is for you if you not save the 60$ and buy something pretty, i give this game 3 dragons out of 5

I want to give this game a 6/5. But i cant. This is the absolutely most awesome game that I have ever played.

It is funny.. has music that is SO catchy.. is not too hard.. and is just plain genious..

Where else can you dig through trash cans to find a hamburger that you can eat in battle? Where else can you deliever a wet towel and a pizza to monkeys that live underground so that you get get to a trainer that will teach you to teleport to various places? Nowhere!

You're crazy if you dont like this game....

(Perhaps ever crazier if you will play 200$ for it!)

I reccomend looking for alternative places to get this game :)

Or perhaps.. go back in time and buy the complete game in 1994 or whenever :)

  Modern Age RPG
Review created: 03/02/10

Imagine yourself sound asleep only to be woken up by a resounding crash. Now picture yourself getting dressed to go see what it was with your bat and your trusty dog. Now would you believe it if the sound you heard came from a meteorite and inside it was a bee proclaiming you to be one of the four heroes (sounds familiar) that will save the world. If you can then you know you're playing Earthbound.

Known as possibly one of the best R.P.G.'s on the Super Nintendo that was actually released to the states. You control the four youths; Ness (embodiment of a typical boy with psychic powers), Paula (the female psychic powerhouse), Jeff (classic science nerd), and Poo (prince from a very distant land). You will encounter crazy characters, weird enemies, from humans to aliens. I guarentee you will not stop playing this game for a long, long time.

Earthbound RPG Best Game Of The 90's
Review created: 20/01/10

Its a pretty good game (My Score 96/100) but, its not worth buying if the price is over 100$. Well this is all about a kid named ness then he wakes up during a good a night sleep when he hears a sound. I don't wanna tell any thing else about the story, but its a great game you won't regret buying it. The boss Giygas, is pretty hard at first but after that its pretty easy. (Hint:Make sure to keep paula alive in your party thats the key!) The game was not so rare how it is now its funny how its worth a lot of money. Grade A game 100% fun you should buy it. BEST RPG GAME EVER!!!!!! Like i said you won't regret it.

  Great spoof, very expensive
Review created: 18/10/09
by:

Some reviewers don't seem to understand what Earthbound is about. After all, there are other RPGs released about the same time with better graphics and gameplay, so why does everyone love Earthbound?

The reason is that Earthbound did something that few other games at the time did, made us laugh. Its entire premise is that it is a spoof off of earlier Enix games and RPGs in general. For example, the conversation you have with your father on the phone to save the game is a direct reference to talking to the King to save your game in Dragon Warrior.

Yes the game costs a lot of money. That is because it is so rare. Like many excellent games that come out today, people don't pay any attention to them because they don't have the stamp of 'Halo' or 'Killzone' on them. People didn't seem to notice Earthbound until a while after its release. Not very many cartridges were sold, but demand now for the game is high. That is why it costs so much.

Bottom line: If you want an RPG with amazing story, gameplay and graphics, get Final Fantasy VI. If you want an RPG that is different, quirky and funny, while still being very well designed, get Earthbound.

Last thoughts: To that reviewer who got Earthbound from his friend for 3$...I hate you.
