Useful for absolute beginners, but not for others.

I purchased this guide after getting a Paladin up to about level 50, hoping that it would be able to give me some idea of what to expect as the endgame instances came up (Zul Gurub, Molten Core, etc.). Unfortunately, there is nothing of real value in this book for a person who has played a character that long.
That being said, if you're a complete n00b to the world of World of Warcraft, then this book can be extremely useful. It does let you know in general how each class plays, so that you know what sort of fights you'll generally be involved in as your new character improves. This can be a surprise with some classes (like my Paladin, for example). It is also full of useful information about MMORPG's in general, such as how people may expect you to conduct yourself (apparently you should be respectful of others), and warnings about things like ninja looting and corpse camping.
Of course, the biggest downfall of this book is that it is not updated with the patches, so that a lot of important information (such as talent trees) has been completely revamped in the game and is thus totally useless. There is, however, a large amount if information that remains useful to absolute beginners, and as of patch 1.11, the characters all still play largely as they were originally intended. That being said, there are rumors floating around that the Burning Crusade expansion will substantially change the way some classes play (such as, oh I don't know... my Paladin). Be advised.
Happy Hunting!
