One of the best games for the PS2. I'll start with the graphics. They are completely top of the line. You won't see anyone walking through poles, or having squares for heads or anything like that. Some of the best graphics i've ever seen. Period. Next, the storyline. It begins with Kratos, former captain of the Spartan Army, About to throw himself off of Mt. Olympus, after 10 years of pain, suffering, and service to the gods. The game takes you back to 3 weeks earlier, where you find Kratos on a ship in the Aegean Sea, surrounded by Undead soldiers, as the Sea is being attacked by the Hydra, you fight your way through countless soldiers, before you fight the Hydra. You see, after his army nearly beong destroyed by the barbarians, Kratos surrendered his life to Ares, the god of war. Permenantly in Ares' debt, Kratos becomes his servant. With the Blades of Chaos permanantly seared onto his wrists as a reminde of what he did. Kratos' mission and goal from the gods, is to destroy Ares. Murder the God of War. As you play through the game, you find out more about Kratos' tortured past and why he suffers and must kill Ares. Now for the ganeplay. Some may tell you its a button-masher. But don't listen to them. This game is only a button masher if you make it one. And the combos generally look cool and are easy to pull of. The characters and monsters are geniusly animated. The cyclops looks like a cyclops. Medusa looks like Medusa, and so on. The symphonic scores are rarely this great. Simply perfect. Worth buying just to listen to them. Kratos' hard, pained voice perfectly matches his character. All the gods' voices match them, as each god gives you a special power. Poseidon-Poseidon's Rage, a powerful lighting attack. Zeus-Zeus' Fury. The ability to throw lightning bolts at enemies. Athena, after killing Medusa, gifts you medusa's head, which you can use to turn enemies into stone. Artemis-Artemis' blade. Its the blade she used to slay a Titan, and will make you near-invulnerable if you perfect you playing with it. Max its level as fast as you can. Best part about it is it doesn't use magic. Finally, Army of Hades. Also very powerful. Summons spirits from Hades itself to attack your enemies. The camera angles never work against you, which is very good sonce you can't control them. The camera is always perfect. The boss battles. Though there are only 3 (Hydra, Giant Armored Minotaur, and Ares)they are extremely well done. The hydra is challenging, and like you may expect, you DON'T fight all 6 or whatever heads at once. You fight them all separately (except for 2) and each has it's own way to beat it. The Giant Minotaur is very fun and challenging. You must figure out how to break its armor as it attacks you, then figure out how to hit it with flaming logs to kill it. Ares, the Final enemy you will fight in the game. In the first part, you can use any weapon you have, and any magic power to defeat him. Second part, you must kill a lot of [more] "evil" Kratos clones in order to protect your family. And in the final part, you must fight Ares with the blade of the Gods, and in this battle when you hit Ares, you gain health and he loses health and vice-versa. Finally, you unlock a ton of features for beating the game, and more for beating on God mode. So, anyone who considers themself a true gamer (and even people that don't) must buy this game. A must have for all PS2 owners. Wish I could rate it higher. Hope I helped and hope you buy God of War.

  God of Great!

This is great game for a teenager, not a child. There is a lot of gore and violence, which makes sense, since the story goes back to when the Gods like Zeus and Hades ruled the land.

You control Kratos, a man abandoned by the gods, who is given a duty from the Gods to kill Ares, the God of War. In order to do so, you must traverse though many enemy ridden areas killing them along the way. Very great gameplay, camera, and in-depth storyline. Use a variety of weapons, which all have their own combos, and various magic that allows you to dispose of your enemies how you choose! A few examples are decapitation, turning them to stone, ripping them in half, jamming a weapon through their head, and many other sure-death attacks! I would recommend this for anyone looking for a good game, this stands as one the best games I own!

Even if your a complete die hard XBX or Gamecube fan, you still can't help but give props to the PS2 hardware once again. Very few games in this genre ever get lucky enough to be considered "epic", and this game IS epic. Everything from the eye popping landscapes to the ginormous beasts is just fantastic, did I say fantastic, I meant "friggen awesome!"

I'm not the biggest fan when it comes to platforming (The idea of timing your jumps on unrealistic floating platforms and elevating pedestals never sat right with me) but for some reason I didn't mind it with GoW, infact just about every platforming sequence fit right in with the game, and a big plus...they were never too difficult!

Like Devil May Cry, the real kicker with God of War lay within the sheer simplicity of it's controls. Granted it doesn't take a genius to pull off a few pretty combos while button mashing, but with some patience an average gamer can string along 30-50 or even 100pt high damage combos with finese. And there are literally thousands of combinations to choose from. Lest we not forget all that cool magic and weapon upgrades you get to choose from, it's just refreshing.

My only real gripe is the continue screen you get if you die too often within a certain period of time. It's an inconspicuously different screen that the developers threw in to "help" if your experiencing some difficulty. It'll ask if you want to put your game on "Easy Mode" (assuming you didn't already select easy mode ya wuss). Well if your anything like me and got used to clicking them buttons pretty damn fast so-as you can get back to your game after the 11-teenth fall from that cliff, you'll most likely do as I did and accidentally click "Yes" some where along the line. This will land your game in a persistant easy mode state from which you cannot change back, it sucks. I was also kinda hoping for some additional downloadable content for my hard drive (the very same HD I recently brought for that glamorized version of an AOL chat room called FFXI), oh well.

Hacky slashy blood n' death with a little sex too.

In spite of my persistence to not go with the crowd and ignore God of War while trying to broaden my horizons as far as my gaming experiences go I must admit that my curiosity got the better of me after the sequel came out and my God of War fan-boy friends wouldn't be quiet about it so I decided to give it a whirl and see how many minotaurs I could carve up before I was completely desensitized to blood. It turns out quite a few minotaurs were killed and it may have been enjoyable along the way at certain points. I'll admit that God of War is by no means a bad game. The controls were tight and intuitive and there were a variety of ways that I was able to decapitate my violence fodder foes. The story is not the worst I've ever heard but then again I've never really cared for Greek mythology. Basically a muscular guy named Kratos became somewhat of a contractor for Aeries, the God of War (hint hint) and while on a murder fest he kills his family. Being the vengeful type, Kratos then goes on a quest to kill Aeries involving all sorts of other Greek myths. At one point he dies along the way and fights his way outta hell just to build a more stable foundation of badassery. Like I mentioned before the combat is fluid and violent like a bloody sacrifice and there are combos that can be added on to so killing things never gets old. The level design is my only irritant. Some seemed like they were just padding to try and keep the game rolling for a few more minutes. One part in particular was where I needed to wander through a desert with zero visibility and try to kill three sirens (the mythical east and not the ones I hear at my neighbor's house on a daily basis) so I could unlock a gate to progress. It took me over an hour to wander through, find them and kill them even though it was a relatively small area they were hidden in. Also there are a lot of underwater tunnels you'll need to swim through and running out of air killed me more than any of the other fights combined. On a final note this game is not for kids. Just in case there's someone jumping on the bandwagon later than me and might be thinking of getting it for a kid relative as a present, there is a playable sex scene. Try explaining that one to the kid's parent when they walk in the room to have the kid ask "what is that he's doing to the two women?"

  A surprising diamond...
Review created: 31/05/07

This game is true to its mature rating, so take some heed parents, but it's a remarkably good game...

In my opinion the game works on three levels and each of them are extremely well done...

The storyline - Greek mythology is a well studied subject and has been successfuly exploited by many different branches of entertainment (movies, theatre, books etc.) so straight off the mark there's a lot going for this game... But its storyline is done particularly well, entertaining you with character and plot insights as you progress that tie in well with the rest of the gameplay...

The action - It's arcade style violence contains flashy combos, various spells and different enemies that keep you interested... On easy its a button-mashing walk in the park, on hard it starts to test you and in god mode you'll probably get extremely frustrated... However, the action isn't all there is to this game, which is mostly to its credit so keeping the difficulty a bit lower doesn't detract from your enjoyment...

The puzzles - Dotted throughout the game on Kratos' quest are various puzzles for him (you) to solve... They're a lot of fun, although some are quite challenging, and can be pretty testing...

When you combine these three elements you really have a well created, value-for-money game that will keep you amused...

God of War is considered the best action game for the PlayStation 2 and for this reason this one can not be missed. The game tells the story of Kratos, a spartan warrior that's about to suicide. The player goes back at his past and see his last doings to understand the reason for that act.

The game CGs are impressive. Special filters, transitions between draws and animated characters gives a unique touch to them. The blood effects and the way it comes out from the wounded shows a real bloodshed and these are to tell the game was made for adults.

The game visual is astonishing, with wonderfully modeled scenarios and well animated characters. The reproduction of Greece is a conceptual art made to expand the player's imagination and not to reproduce it with veracity. The game collects the tales of the Greek Mithology and works it out of the conventional without hiting its beauty.

The most attracting element of the game is Kratos's twin blades which he uses at the end of a chain that was fixed at his arms by the hands of Ares, the god of war. The game has some kind of a button mashing gameplay, but it works so perfectly and Krato's attacks are so innovative and easy to deliver that the game is a sure diversion.

God of War is one of those games that is unique not only for the game itself but for the complete work. It's a big production with the look of a big production, and everyone can see, at the whole work and at the details, that the creators of the game have made it with love for the players to love it. And that's what happened. God of War is the newest most worthy franchise at Sony's hands. HAVE IT!

From the opening scene I was drawn into this world. It is one that we have rarely scene: it is beautiful, but I'll get to that later on. The storyline is very simple: driven by revenge, Kratos embarks on an epic journey to bring down Ares, the God of War. There is more to it than that but you need to play this game in order to truly appreciate it. I won't ruin anything here. Graphics. This is one of the best looking games of this generation. Everything is just gorgeous. The characters move ever so fluidly. The character models are great to look at. Some of course are less detailed than others but its easily able to overlook these as you'll be caught up in everything else. The locales are beautiful. The art direction is fantastic. There are normal cutscenes and there are the different ones. The art direction in these different scenes are simply captivating. The characters and environments are 2D but are treated as 3D. It's elegant really. The worlds look wonderful as well. Everything is so lush and beautiful, just like Greece is made out to be. Everything is detailed down to the last rock or brick. No detail is too small, which is quite commendable. The music in this is comparable to that of a big budget Hollywood production. Everything music-wise fits perfectly with the situation at hand. Sometimes it is quite subtle too as to where you don't directly notice it but sets the mood and would hamper the game were it not there. The voice acting is strong as well. Everyone fits their role and not one that I can remember seems awkward or out of place. Linda Hunt is wonderful as the narrator. Her distinct voice fits perfectly and is a joy to hear every time she speaks. Kratos' voice actor is great as well. He brings his own personality to Kratos and it fits like a shoe. Gameplay is amazingly fluid. Combos are awesome looking yet simple to pull off. In God of War it is as simple as O,O,O. That's it but it pulls off an amazing looking combo. It’s all fluid and a true joy to use. It makes the game that much better. One very large fault in this game is its length. It can be beaten, first time through, in less than 8 hours. This game is an instant classic. It’s how games should be. It’s fun, it sounds amazing, it plays great, it has wonderful characters, an awesome story and a heart. If you like action games you need to pick this game up, there's really no two ways about it.

  2005 Game of the Year???

3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Pros
+ One of the best looking games that will ever hit the PS2.
+ Deep story with gorgeous cutscenes & a huge mythology.
+ Variety of levels that feel like they have been ripped from the pages of history.
+ Brutal main character who you will never forget.
+ Huge boss battles & a real sense of satisfaction in giving a beating to your enemies.

Cons
- Novices should be able to handle the easiest mode but any other mode is for the hardcore gamers only.
- A little on the short side but you will probably want to play it over again anyway.
- Lots of button mashing.

Comments
I can't say enough good things about this game. This is one of the most original games to be released and will hopefully blossom into a powerful franchise in the future. Forget 'Onimusha' or 'Devil May Cry'. This game own your action/adventure seeking soul.

Verdict
Must own game if you are Mature enough of course. There is no substitute for this game. It owns its genre and you should own it as well.

This is the best Game on Playstation 2 ever. Mind blowing graphics and a beautiful story line tell of how this Greek hero was wronged and sought revenge from the mighty God Of War -- Ares. This game combines thoughtful puzzles and skillful maneuvering with an uncanny ability to quench your deepest brute desires for violence and carnage. As you play this game you are slowly revealed as to how Kratos was deceived and formed into the perfect weapon of the gods. His lust for power drive him to destroy those closest to him and when he realizes it, it is only too late. The plot thickens as you must acquire the skills and dexterity along with several gifts from other gods in order to destroy the very god that gave you your powers and your curses.
This game's sound and graphics are top notch. Whether you are playing with full surround sound or a mono set-up on an old tube T.V. it will not matter; you will be amazed at how Kratos' anger is made to feel as your very own anger and how his desire--lust-- for vengeance transform you to feel Kratos' pain.
Highly recommended. Not only did I really enjoy this game but my girlfriend enjoyed playing it as well.

  It Can Be Beaten!

"God Of War" is definitely one of the best games of its time. And no matter how many changes gaming and games in general go through it will be a mainstay name for all time. This game personifies puzzle solving and making the player have to think more times than not. So if that is something you hate in a game, and want everything perfectly mapped out for you to do, this game is not for you then.

Don't be surprised when encountering a lot of these tasks if you say to yourself "There's no way you can do this!" because I said that tons of times myself. But I've beaten it, so I can honestly say if you take your time all tasks and puzzles are capable of getting by. One good thing the game provides is hints along the way to help you on certain tasks/puzzles. Another thing the game excels well in is telling you the controls along the way for everything possible at a certain time, like when it comes to certain attacks and using certain powers of the Gods....etc. It's obvious when looking at the game once playing it, that they put a lot of work into it to make it the best it possibly could be. The scenery in a lot of places is impressive and breath taking and will leave you on the edge of your seat. Especially in parts where you have to rock climb and things of that nature. The controls are not nearly as complicated as they seem when you first start playing the game. Once you execute them a few times you get the hang of everything. Truly a great game for anyone that loves mythology, that loves a great story being told as you play it, and anyone that loves violence and good graphics. You really can't ask for anything better than God Of War!

Play it with your shirt off
Review created: 04/07/06

That's what I've started doing. It's a game that drips testosterone from marble columns of Athens to (but not quenching) the infernals of Hades. There's not much happy in Krato's Ancient Greece. Well, strike that. Maybe Aries is happy because he's ripping Athens to shreds. Fires, thunderstorms, Aries' steel clanging, while the helpless humans fire arrows at the God of War unleashed. Pah! Human Arrows. It's like trying to put out Hades' flames by blowing bubbles.

There is so much amazing about God of War. First, I'll talk about thought. There's folly about. That's the theme of Greek Mythology, ALWAYS. Folly between the gods and "their human playthings". However, Greek gods are flawed just like the human pawns. For the gods of Olympus err clumbsiness then clean-up their mistakes after. What folly! God of War WORKS as Greek Mythology. I love the concept of "destroying a god" through Pandora's Box. Opening Pandora's Box, the colloquialism, is to unleash a maelstrom of unpredictable chaotic events. Is that what happens when a god is killed? Absolutely. This is what I mean regarding thought. There are philosphical gems that glisten in Ancient Greece.

Second, the gameplay and controls are extremely tight. You'll use every button on the contoller when battling. You'll use every move. Rolling/evasion, blocking, comboes that can rise to triple digit numbers (my highest is 124) are necessary to avoid becoming burger to Aries' black-hearted baddies. This said, tight controls are necessary, work perfect, creating some ridiculously fast paced/intense action.

Third, is balance. Now some friends say I smoke too much over drinking, but I understand balance is required. God of War balances action and puzzle solving, and not once do the scales dip to one side. Sure, the game gets difficult and frustrating the further you take Kratos, but never is there too much fighting, too much puzzle-solving, or too much drinking. Wah? The balance is great.

Did I mention level design? No? It's brilliant. Sometimes it reminds me of Prince of Persia:SOT and sometimes Tomb Raider. Environments are very fluid, from the details of statues and Greek architecture, to Kratos' ugly reflection on a highly polished floor? I'd hate to be the sap who keeps those Greek floors so spickitty span clean. I wonder what that dude makes an hour. Benefits are worth it, especially if you get to glimpse the Oracle of Athens in her sheer top. Huh? Great level design.

To add one more edge on Kratos already sharp blades, God of War has a wonderful soundtrack. The music is ambiant sometimes, orchestral at others. Should I say it again? Ok. Balanced soundtrack.

I'll wrap it up. My wife came down when I was playing and she said, "Honey, why do you have your shirt off?" I looked at her. My eyes were bloodshot but not from God of War. I replied, "Kratos doesn't wear a shirt. If he doesn't, I don't."

My son gave me this game for my 50+ birthday. Usually, I play stealth type genre but he knew this could be a new favorite for me. It took me 3 weeks but I beat the game on easy mode. The game is set in ancient mystical Greece and the main character has to kill Ares (pronounced Aries) "The God of War" against seemingly insurmountable odds. In his journeys he encounters mythical monsters and other "gods" that lend him power as he proves himself. Simple puzzles, very good story line, gothic music, beautiful landscapes, lots of blood and gore and a very fast pace makes this game enormously playable. I am now playing it again. butin Spartan Mode which is very hard but gratifying when I pass a new level. Gameplay, scenes and music are very similar to Devil may Cry, another great game.

This is an awesome game. Brutal violence and action. It's a beat 'em up type game with a great story. You fight some really cool monsters that are pretty difficult to beat, especially in God mode. There are cool weapons, like the blades of chaos; they're giant blades attatched to your arms and you can swing them around and slash like crazy with an assortment of combination attacks. You also get some magic abilities and a secondary weapon during the story.
There's a lot of puzzle solving during gameplay as well, which adds to the difficulty.
Awesome action game looking for anyone looking to take out some anger and work your brain at the same time.

This game delivers it ALL. Where many action/adventure games fail, God of War excels, and then some. Gameplay is innovatively outstanding-- immerse yourself in lavish scenes of ancient Greece all while battling relentless mythical monsters in your quest for redemption. Mini-games utilizing special reaction commands delivers a new fighting experience for the PS2, along with puzzle and strategy gaming elements which require precision and thought.

The intensive, storyline lets players delve into the mind of our protagonist, Kratos. The story, narration, and cinematic movie scenes unfold beautifully throughout the game allowing the player to gradually decipher the mystery of our hero, Kratos. Replay value for this game is excellent! I've personally played this game 3 times in different modes and always find it a fun challenge.

To sum it up, if you were to only play one game in your life, this should be the one. PURE MASTERPIECE.

Two words: simply amazing! The cutscenes and gameplay graphics are supurb, and the storyline sucks you in before the game even STARTS! Battling enemies gives you plenty of customization as YOU decide how you want to defeat them. You can grab an enemy, then whichever button you push next is the way you finish him off. Will you rip a demon in half, or kick it to the ground and stab it to death! It's definitely a "M" rating title, but I haven't played a game like this in quite some time. On some of the bigger enemies, once you've worn it down enough a command will appear above it's head, press this to initiate "mini-game" mode where you must follow the button combinations on the screen quickly and accurately to finish them off, or else get thrown back to the ground and battle some more! This game is engineered with button mashers out of thought! If you just mash the buttons in this game, the mass of enemies will eventually run you down.

The only minor con I have for this game is the inability to manually change the camera angles or look around. Whatever angle or view they give you is what you have to deal with, BUT sometimes that's part of the puzzle you're trying to solve. Showing too much of the room might give away the solution to the puzzle. So, in a way it's not that bad.

Save/load times are quick for the amount of data that needs to be saved/loaded. There are plenty of opportunities to save your game, and also includes "built-in" checkpoints you are unaware of in case you die to respawn on. You only get one life, so the checkpoints definitely come in handy as you have unlimited restarts from them.

As you progress through the game and collect red "orbs" you can choose which weapons/magic you want to upgrade to the next level. This was the best feature of the game because it allows you to enhance weapons you use the most, or favorites at that. The environments are almost completely playable, and you even get "orbs" for destroying random items! In a way, it entices you to check for secrets and hidden items! As you upgrade your weapons/magics, new attacks are unlocked and you attacks get stronger of course. Simply incredible!

This title is $19.99 now, as it is a Greatest Hits title, and IS the best game I've played in quite some time. They also just announced God Of War 2 coming out sometime in 2007...so make sure you pick this up and finish it by then!! :)

  Cratos is the man!
Review created: 06/07/06
by:

I am very tough on games and can only think of about 3 games in the past ten years I would give a perfect score too and this is one of them. This game has it all, a great story of a legendary warrior, "Cratos", makes his first debut in this game. Cratos, is a bald, ashe skinned suicidal hero who decides to take on the gods themselves for his salvation from the nightmares that haunt him from his mistake ridden past. I will not give to much away about the story line but I could compare the story as being better than most well written movies I had seen in the past. The in game Graphics makes the player feel as if they are actually in the ancient times of Greece with displays of majestic proportions. Lets not forget the other thing that makes a great game, and that is gameplay. It doesn’t matter how good a game looks, if you don’t feel like you have complete control of the character then it just doesn’t feel right or hold your interest for very long. No problem here with Cratos. He has an arsenal of cool weapons and magic and sweet combos to take down the legions of baddies who stand in his way. The combos feel natural and are very responsive and accurate which makes for the feeling that you are the one who is truly controlling the main character, Cratos. This game also has a lot of nice bonuses for completing the expert missions, and let me tell you they are not easy. I truly felt like I was probably one of the few that stuck it out and unlocked everything because it got so challenging and time consuming. If you like fighting games don’t miss out on this one. It was worth the $50.00 dollars I paid for it when it came out and now you can get it for around $15.00. Score 5 out of 5, Take Care

Like all games now and days, God Of War has appealing graphics. If you look close enough, you'll notice that the graphics are about three times the quality of PS1, which was a 32 bit system and PS2 is a 128 bit system. PS2's graphic card power brings out the real time lighting well in this game, not to mention a good fps rate. As for the thrill of the game, God Of War is one of the better action titles PS2 has seen in a while. If you're tired of all the games out there that are just graphics only, then give this title a shot. It will entertain you as well........not just eye candy. If your a PC gamer, email me sometimes at the end of the year at nug1978@aol.com. I'm a game designer who's starting a game development company which will produce console quality PC games. The titles I release will have the graphics of today but the fun of the old!

Peace,
The "Nugman" Nugster

Best Action Game of the Year

Easily the best game of 2005: God of War. I seen them preview the game on Attack of the Show before it came out and was instantly impressed with the graphics and the storyline they presented. So, on the day of the release I had to buy it, not something I normally do without renting first. The in-game graphics did not let me down. Visually stunning graphics take you to Ancient Greece where you go from the sea to the mountains and then to the dessert.
As with most Action/Adventure games it does have cut scenes but these are the best placed and not only does it help the story out but they are not extremely long as I have seen before, just long enough to take a quick break from the action.
The fighting system is needless to say the best I have seen. With the combos that you can do and the hand-to-hand action is good as well. Enemies progressively get harder and the bosses are fun and hard to figure out as well. The puzzles keep the game interesting although once you figure them out they do not change in the harder levels which is a little dissappointing but overall very fun to do over again.
If you dont get any game this year for the PS2 please at least let yourself rent this game. You will not be dissapointed!

This isn't madness, this is Sparta!

After having thoroughly enjoyed God of War 2, I was eager to play the prequel and learn the rest of the story. The game play, the story lines, the maddening puzzles; all of it was worth the purchase of the game. A bonus was the accompanying figure that fit in as a perfect addition to my collection of figurines.

If you're a fan of the God of War series and have NOT yet played the original game then I highly suggest picking up the title. God of War keeps the mind and fingers sharp while exploring the puzzle of Pandora's castle atop the back of the exiled Chronos all the while working to gain power to fight the corrupt God of War, Ares, himself. Help Kratos, a cursed Spartan warrior, on his journey of revenge, power, and regaining his memories of how he ended up a slave to the Gods in the first place.

God of War - Sony made it again

The God of War is one of those games that when you sit down to play, you just can't let it until you have spent about two or three hours of continous play.

The combat system is perfect, the graphics and the backgrounds are amazing. The history impacts you the way that you have many questions that based on your progress are automatically answered.

This game is not suitable for children cause all the violence and creatures that are shown on it. If you plan to play, wait for your children to sleep.

Best of all, you can see the behind the scenes of the making of the game when you end it with normal or hard mode. When you see it, you will be like me and all that have played, amazed by all the work, and concept that it has inside.

if You want a Mature Game that sit you hours and hours of full play, using your brain with all the low and mid puzzles, watching well structured backgrounds, and a special combat system, etc., buy it, believe me, you will love it.

As you progress threw the game you face many different enemies and get new weapons as well as magic powers. Awesome experience, a must play game for everyone who play games.

"God of War" is a video game that combines all the action, strategy, and graphics that the Playstation 2 console could handle. As Kratos (the main character) you will go on a fantastic journey through several ancient Greek myths. The storyline is excellent. All-in-all I would say that "God of War" is one of the best video games I have ever played.

A remarkable game in every aspect!

Let's start from the outset. Before I open the box, it says you can download the ENTIRE soundtrack for free from the Sony website. HOW COOL is THAT!! I then proceeded to open the box. The manual is decent with some interesting artwork. I popped the game in. I went to options. And lo and behold, it has a setting for Widescreen, a setting for progressive scan, AND Surround sound. I have a 37" Philips LCD and a Bose Surround sound system, and the enhanced graphic options (widescreen, progressive) , and the Surround sound option really enhance the total experience. I then proceed to scan the other options and I notice there are a whole bunch of cool extras under the Treasure listing in the menu. I have to say that I am already impressed, and looking forward to a hopefully decent game. I pop the game in, and watch. I am so blown away that when the story stops, and the game starts it takes me a second to realize that I can actually start playing!!!.. This game is GORGEOUS. Character designs are just over the top, the backgrounds are truely one of the most breathtaking backgrounds I have ever seen in an adventure game. So graphics-wise this game is 10/10. The story is VERY good. It reminded me of reading an old book on Greek mythology, like the seven tasks of Hercules. The narration is SUPERB. The sounds are great. The gameplay is Flawless, and truly innovative. The fighting engine is varied and not monotone, the AI is great, the extras are great. And the boss battles!!! OH MY GOD!!!! They are simply amazing, and breathtaking. To sum it up I can say that this game is without a doubt one of the best games I have ever played, and it will forever stay in my mind. It is fun beyond measure, and I can say if you haven't played this game then you haven't had a full life.
