Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (DVD, 2001, 30th Anniversary Edition; Full Frame)

For me Gene Wilder will always be the true Willy Wanka (sorry Johnny Dep) and I will probably never stop having the Oompa Loompa song pop into my head at odd moments. Quite frankly this movie was such a wonderful translation of Roald Dahl's book, that I was surprised that anyone would want to remake it.

The storyline is brilliant, the "lessons" universal, and the special effects, cheesy but in a good good way. As I follow Charlie's quest for the ticket and his journey through the factory I feel his sadness, joy and wonder.

When I was picking out DVDs for my kids, this was at the top of the list. It is a must have for Childs DVD library.

I grew up watching this film. I found it absolutely one of the best films ever as a kid - who wouldn't, with all those candies and chocolates! Watching it again recently was quite enjoyable too. As a kid being too caught up with all the visuals, I didn't really notice Willy Wonka's wicked humor and his classic one-liners, which were both sarcastic and hilarious. Gene Wilder, is to me, THE Willy Wonka - though Charlie and the Chocolate factory may be truer to the book, this for me, is the best movie of Roald Dahl's classic children's story.

Along with The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory hails as one of the greatest children's movies ever made.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is more of a cult favorite then Oz but needless to say it's images are also universally known. The brats, Veruca, Mike Tee- Vee, Violet and Augustus helps some of the seven deadly sins come to life.
The Oompa Loompas are iconic and creepy. The factory filled with candy where you can even eat the dishes remains mythic to this day.
Gene Wilder's performance is one of the greatest of all times. His crazy hair and wild eyes help bring the mystery to life and you never quite know if he is good or bad.
Alas- golden eggs, everlasting gobbstoppers, Violet your turning violet and rivers of Chocolate that must never be touch by human hands, the movie wavers from comedy to fantasy to drama and then back to comedy in on full swoop.
Like Willy says "The oranges taste like oranges, the lemons taste like lemons, the snozzberries taste like snozzberries."

It was brand new and still in the package. It was also a great price.
I bought it because I love the movie, and the price was better then any store had it for sale at.

I bought it for my grandson's Christmas present. I like it because it has good morals and values expressed in the movie content.

I bought this dvd and paid for it the next day. The seller never shipped it. I wrote to the seller about this and never received a response.
I am now trying to get my money back.

My son had only watched the newer version until this was purchased and in my opinion you cannot make a classic better. He sings the songs all the time. Anyone that watches this movie can love it and imagine being in the factory.

A great movie for the whole family. A mixture of mystery, comedy, lessons in behaviour and love. If you haven't seen it yet, add it to your list.

This is a great kids movie. No cussing , just wholesome entertainment ! A little suspense for kids to be on the edge of their seats. Hopefully will also teach them manners and to not be brats, ha ha

What a Gene Wilder classic!
Glad I bought it. My 6 year old granddaughter likes it better than the Johnny Depp version. I prefer the Depp version but hey....she's the one I bought them for!

"Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" is a strange little world that has some great lessons. You can see what you don't want your kids to ever be like, and the character of Charlie Bucket shines beautifully amidst the defective personalities of the other children. I like to use it to show my children how bad certain tendencies really look when a child does them...so they can choose better behavior. Too, it makes you just feel good that this poor, child, living in an oppressive situation, has such a noble character and that it is rewarded in the end. Don't we all want to know that living the right way will be rewarded? As a Christian, I know that awaits me in heaven, but I also enjoy the added benefit of feeling the blessing of a clear conscience - knowing I have done no wrong or harm. Charlie has a moment like that, where he does the right thing - not to be rewarded, but still he is rewarded with more than he ever dreamed possible. Some strange stuff in the story but it is nonetheless a really beautiful tale.

One of my favorite all time movies. I am now enjoying it with my granddaughter. She discovers a different imaginative part of the movie, each time we watch it.

This has to absolutely be one of the best children's films ever made! I bought it after watching the new version, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, with my 4 year old daughter. I felt the new version isn't even close to this one and wanted her to see the Classic.

It's interesting and has enough action for adults and kids. Good kid verses bad kids learning life lessons, (GLUTTONY,SHARING,HONESTY,GREE​D)thoughout the movie.
