Spawn, amazing yet incomplete
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.
If you are a fan of Spawn this DVD set is, simultaneously, one of the most frustrating and one of the most exciting viewing experiences one could have. The animation reflects the mood and temper of the comic, the storyline of the series has minor diversions from the storyline of the comic book but for good reasons (and is, surely, no less enjoyable), the voice acting is top notch, and the pacing leaves you with an itch to see the next episode immediately (very much reminiscent of the comic book). Though this is called the “ultimate collection” of Spawn, it is ultimately incomplete. HBO cancelled the production of this Anime-esque masterpiece at a very inopportune moment in the series which leaves a thirst that cannot be sated. It is one of the most enjoyable animations I have ever seen but it ends abruptly and far too soon leaving the viewer feeling abandoned and unsatisfied. The experience is magnificent, but the fact that it ends so abruptly and without resolution is superlatively frustrating.
