Elf (DVD, 2004)

Will Ferrell, Will Ferrell and more Will Ferrell. And he’s wearing tights. It really doesn’t get much better than “Elf”.

Its not another Saturday Night Live movie – and don’t get me wrong, I like those! – like Night at the Roxbury or the Ladies Man. This is a movie that actually has a plot. Has real dialogue. And ha continuous laughs.

This is actually Will Ferrell’s first leading role and, along with Old School, the movie that cemented him as a comedic star and a $20,000,000 leading actor. Playing Buddy the human Elf, Will Ferrell finds himself lost in the bustling world that is New York City. Whether you are a child or an adult, the gem of the movie is Will Ferrell because he comes across likeably and awkwardly – playing the fish-out-of-water role quite perfectly. The lasting appeal of the movie is that the comedy is good-natured rather than raunchy – making it appealing for all audiences.

Additionally, Elf has great replay value and the DVD is loaded with features and extras. Great lines include:

Emily: You like sugar, huh?
Buddy: Is there sugar in syrup?
Emily: Yes.
Buddy: Then YES!

Buddy: I passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.

Buddy: First we'll make snow angels for a two hours, then we'll go ice skating, then we'll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough as fast as we can, and then we'll snuggle.

Oh my gosh where do I start. I went to see this when in first was released with my best friend & kids. We would had never thought we have a good time watching this. The kids were looking at me & my best friend because we were LAUGHING OUT LOUD.
It has adult humor that the kids did not understand. So, I suggest buy only for people over 13 years old. We went in thinking this would be a kids movie but boy were we wrong, this is FUNNY..FUNNY...for mature people.
I could not wait to purchase, but it took over a year before it was released on DVD, I still watch it til this day, and still LAUGH OUT LOUD.

I thought this was a great family movie and had to add it to our Family collection. Tells the story of a baby raised by Santa Clause and Elfs at the North pole. The day comes and off he goes to find his Father. His journey to the big city is all new to him and funny, he meets all kinds of people and no one believes he comes from the North Pole. All turns out well for Elf and it's nice to see that the spirit of X-Mas comes back to everyone and all turns out well in the end.Good movie for any child or family to watch. I would give it a A+

'Elf' starring Will Ferrell. Will was an orphan child

who stowed away on Santa's sleigh as a child and was adopted by one of

Santa's elves. After years of not fitting in with the other elfs, Papa

Elf (Bob Newhart) tells Will the truth: he's not an elf but a human.

Will sets out on a journey to New York City to find his father, who is a

grumpy executive at a publishing company (James Caan). Will Ferrell is

terrific as the silly elf, and this movie is chock full of big laughs And the humor isn't foul like that

found in something like "Scary Movie III", this is more like "School of

Rock". 'Elf' is a great movie for the whole family, yet not aimed

directly at children. For the last 15 minutes of the film, the laughs

abruptly disappear and are replaced by a strangely moving dose of Christmas

spirit. The ending feels like an entirely different movie. But no

matter, for good comedies that don't rely on potty humor are few and far

between these days. Will Ferrell has succeeded in his first major starring

role, and I hope that there are more good projects for him in the

future.



A great time. Don't hesitate to see this terrific film.

This is a great movie for young and old alike. My family has watched it many many times and will watch it many more. You are really missing a really funny movie of you have not seen it. I would give it a 9 out of 5 stars if I could.

I personally thought this movie was cute. My boyfriend not so much. So for the ladies out there. Its funny and cute. Kids loved this movie. Will Farrel is hilarious as a human who ended up getting picked up by santa during christmas one year. Santa brings him back to the north pole where he grows up amongst the other elfs. Although he is about triple their size. He then comes back to NYC to find his father. But his mentality is that of an elf. Its hilarious. He falls in love along the way. Great feel good movie to watch during christmas with the kids. Highly recommended. But for the guys.... I can say that it didn't go over too well...

the cd was skipping because it was scratched and i didnt bother to send it back the shipping was very high higher than the products worth.

I love Will Farrell, I think he is so funny. I didn't love Elf as much as the rest of my family. They laughed and laughed and laughed some more but I sat there thinking how can he be so naive, he's in his 40's. My family explained to me that elves live a longer life than humans do so 40's is like toddler age to them. Ok, I get it, I guess. I liked many scenes in the movies - the escalator scene - I would love to do that! I loved all the scenes featuring his girlfriend - she added a lot to the picture. Who can forget the Christmas Carol at the end? It is a laugh-out-loud funny movie once you get past the age issue.

I didn't enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would have. It was entertaining and funny but it seemed like the same jokes over and over again and it was very predictable. It was not Will Ferrels best acting or best movie.

A Christmas movie that is sure to become a classic!
this feel good movie, is for the young, and old. Its lighthearted, genuinely funny without vulger, sex, or any profanity!
Its a yearly watch!

Elf as a Christmas movie did not accomplish its goals of stirring laughter and make Christmas a time for family and love. I did not find this film to be either, the story is just bland and Will Ferrell as hard as he may try did not get alot of laughs out of me. I recommend that if you want to watch Elf that you rent it or watch it on cable because it is not a keeper.

This is one of my favorite christmas movies of all time. It is super funny and filled with happiness to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. My favorite scene is the "fake Santa" scene. It cracks me up every single time.

I really enjoyed this light-hearted story about the north pole and an elf who doesn't quite fit in. Highly recommeded for one and all.

This has got to be one of the worst no-brainers of the holiday season. Not only is will ferrel an idiot in this movie, it would make even a child groan. How stupid can we be to watch such a waste of time. If we perpetuate such lack of substance for children, then we have no recourse for the same children to grow up without a hunger for intellect. The humor is lame, a disgrace to a nation that is a leader of the world.

THis is as cute as can be. Funny, witty and down right entertaining. Well worth purchasing and watching a second time. My whole family loved it.

This movie was a lot of fun - and my kids like it more than I do. Will Ferrell is great in this movie as is his love interest Zooey Deschanel who does a drop dead great performance of "Baby it's cold outside".

This was great! My favorite part was Elf's intentions on putting the star on the top of the tree. Couldn't stop laughing at that one. Great movie for the entire family to see around the holidays. Really is a Christmas spirit lifter.

THE CHARACTER ELF IS FUNNY AND SAFE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY... I LOVE IT... NOW A CHRISTMAS SEASON CLASSIC FILLED WITH A TOP NOTCH SOUNDTRACK.

I bought this movie so I could watch it anytime I needed a laugh. It is simply a funny, lighthearted, wonderful movie all around! I was never really a Will Ferrell fan until I saw him as Buddy, the elf. One of my holiday favorites that I enjoy watching all year!

I LOVED THE MOVIE BUT I BOUGHT THIS ONE FOR MY MOTHER - IN -LAW SHE LIKED IT ALSO. WILL FARREL IS SO FUNNY IN THIS MOVIE, AND I WOULD GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP.

I just absolutely love this movie. I bought it for my 20 year old daughter because she loves it so much , but I kept borrowing it from her all the time, So I finally bought my own, I'm 45 and it's the funniest movie you'll ever want to see. If your feeling down and need a lift it's always great to watch a Christmas movie anytime of the year. It's a must have movie. Enjoy!
