The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Gamecube)

In the Top 5 of Gamecube Games Ever Made!!! So much fun you can play it over and over!

The Wind Waker is a great game, with tons of fun, action, and challenges. The Wind Waker offers a great story, with awesome side characters, and superb gameplay.

The Wind Waker offers a ton of challenging levels and mini-games, as well as a ton of sidequests. This game will keep you busy for weeks.

Although the Gamecube proved they could make a game with super graphics (Resident Evil 4) I really like the Anime style graphics of this game. At first I was a little dissapointed, but I think that the Anime style graphics suit the game, the characters, and the gameplay.

Pros:

- The weapons (Sword, Bow and Arrow, Boomerang)
- A collection of helpful items (Hook, Camera, Telescope, Leaf)
- The Side Characters (Talking Boat, the Talking Fish, Pirates, The Mini-game Guy)
- Mini-Games (Squid Hunt, Cannon shooter)
- Tons of Sidequests
- The Music
- The sounds Characters make when speaking

Cons:

- The game can get a little frustrating
- Sometimes it's hard to get a good camera angle
- Travelling by sea takes some time (get's easier though)

Final Verdict:

5/5

Rent or Buy: BUY!!!

Whether you are a fan of the Zelda series or not, you will enjoy this game. It has something for everyone, and it definately belongs in your Gamecube collection.

  The legend continues

The Legend of Zelda series has always been among the top rated games for Nintendo for many years. Famous for great gameplay, challenging puzzles, interesting stories, and wonderful music, the legend continues to keep Nintendo fans smilling. Link's adventures continue in this next installment, as he explores a new world. As with each previous system, the hero Link has developed a new look. This new look is by far the most unique. Through the process of cel-shading, Link now looks like he would if he was a Looney Tune. This tends to make the game look childish but that dosen't stop it from being great. Link (or his descendent?) is living peacefully on an island until a giant bird comes and takes his sister. As Link is trying to save her, an old enemy and friend show up and Link his sucked into an even bigger adventure than he thought. This game takes full advantage of the Gamecube controller and makes it very easy to handle. The great new feature in this game is how you explore the world. The world is basically a giant ocean with little islands and it gives you the freedom to sail to them and explore to your hearts content while still moving through the story. Although it isin't as challenging as the previous games, it boasts a very beautiful soundtrack. Even if you don't like the game, you will love the music. Another great game for kids and family. It is at least worth trying. What have you got to lose?

Great way of redemption after Majora's Mask!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I hated Majora's Mask, I think that it was terrible, so I am glad that this new Zelda game was made. Yes I did beat this game all in one sitting but that is not the point. The point is that it is a great game, that is the reason why I beat it in one sitting. The story line has a great twist to it, and there are a bunch of other things that are great as well.

I am not so sure that I would buy this game but I would recomnend that others do buy it as long as you dont plan on beating it all in one sitting.

The Best Zelda Game Ever Made

I would have to write a book if I told all the wonderful things about this game. It is my favorite video game that I EVER played even better than Harry Potter and I loved those games. This game just does not seem to run out of things to do. You think, my gosh! this has to be all there is and you find a million more things to do. I absolutely spent almost a year on this game just so I made sure that I completed the whole game. I still wonder if I found everything. I did have to use the online walkthru to be able to know what to do next. Now, you might think that would ruin it for you but it doesn't because you have to still complete each step and that was enough challenge by itself and did not take away from the excitement of it. It was a very hard game but I was able to play it and complete it and while I did that, My 7 year old grandson watched me and he was able to play it successfully with my help at times when he got stuck and he completed it but the fun thing is that he still plays the game over and over again and loves it. It is the kind of game that you never get tired of playing it. Some very smart people created this game. I give them credit they deserve.

I remember this game getting trashed by gamer critics because of its cartoon like graphics. But once you start playing you will realize how beatiful the game really is. One thing I really didn't like about this game is the downtime sailing before you get your check points. Other than that, the game is a magical master piece. A must have for every dedicated Zelda fan.

  Get past the graphics!
Review created: 01/04/06

This is one of those games you either love or hate. If you have a hard time getting past the graphics go play Grand Theft Auto. If you can get past the graphics you will find a wonderfully made game full of adventure and fun.

This installment in what could be the best game series of all time is nothing short of spectacular. The inovation used if you have a game boy link cable and a gba are nothing you need to beat the game, but it adds another great element to an already great game.

You start out as Link of course on a small island when pirates show up and kidnap your sister. Your grandmother gives you the cloths handed down through the ages and thus starts your adventure!

This version is different from others and you are doing a lot of time in a boat, which Link hasn't done before. The ability to change the direction of the wind was a great innovation and idea by the creaters.

In this game you will go to Valcanos, Ice islands, hidden jungles...and so much more. I don't want to give a lot away since you really should experience it for yourself.

Get this game....that's it just get it, and enjoy it!

  New Looks, Same Great Series!!!
Review created: 05/01/09
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Legend of Zelda series practically defined adventure gaming for an entire generation. Link, the hero of the adventure games, delighted millions by starring in games for each Nintendo console from the NES and Super NES to the Nintendo 64. Link brings this beloved franchise to the Nintendo GameCube in The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and he's more animated than ever.
The first thing you'll notice about The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker is that it looks completely different from any previous title in the franchise. Nintendo has opted to use cel-shading technology on Wind Waker; the result is that the game looks like a cartoon. Die-hard Zelda purists initially howled at this change, arguing that the game skews too young. I think it's fantastic. The cartoon animation style allows for better expression of the characters, and several of the animations--like Link trying to pick up an object that's too heavy--are so cute that you can't help but laugh a little.

The second thing you’ll notice is a focus on wind. Instead of trotting around on foot, Link travels from island to island on a talking boat, but he doesn't get far without the wind blowing in right direction. Luckily, you'll learn how to change the direction of the wind early in the game, and you'll do so frequently--not only to power your boat but also to solve puzzles. Clever use of wind makes Wind Waker stand out from more conventional adventure games.

It seems like everytime a new Zelda is released, everybody hates it until they play it.
Like everytime, this Zelda is a little bit different at first, then you get used to it, and it is amazing!
So many new features, such depth, you will be exploring the vast sea for hours just hunting treasure!
You are basicly pirate Link, and you guessed it, the objective is to save the girl and defeat Ganon, while solving puzzles and conquering dungeons.
I'm pretty sure it was marketed more towards younger kids though, so it is a bit easy.

My only complaint is the time it takes to navigate your boat, once you learn all of the windwaker songs it isn't so bad though.

This is a fun one so be sure to give it a try!

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Walker is a great addition to the Zelda titles. It is by far the best game created for the gamecube. The action is awesome, the puzzles and gameplay can be challenging but not impossible. My only complaint was you would get a crappy camera angle every once and a while. Everything was fresh about this game. It provided me with hours of gameplay.

The Wind Waker definitely one of the best!
Review created: 02/09/07

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

At first I had reservations about the Wind Waker. It didn't make a lot of waves when it came out and most of the criticism was regarding the new look of link and the overworld being cel-shaded hadn't been too positive. It was the only Zelda game I did not play but mostly due to the fact I skipped the GameCube after the N64, but also a small part of me didn't want to see Link in a cartoon. But then I got a Wii and figured it was time to give it a shot regardless of what the initial perceptions were.

Well I was misled. The game is absolutely spectacular! The graphics, although cartoon-ey, are amazing. The colors are bright, accurate, and everything moves with a fluidity that I still have not seen in any other game since. The draw distance is unparalleled. You can literally see for miles on the ocean which makes it so much easier to navigate and find the area you want to go to whether looking for a fish jumping out of the water or a flock of seagulls indicating a Big Octo might be below the sea with a treasure. Things like that can be seen at such a distance so you don't have to be right up on it or depend on a map to guide you there.

What is even more amazing are the Link's controls. He goes exactly where you want to go with incredible smoothness. L-targeting is much better than Z-targeting on the N64's Ocarina of Time. The only time I would say Link has trouble is when trying to get on a ladder. The game mechanics cause Link to curve a little wide when changing the direction which can make it difficult to line up the entry to a ladder, especially when climbing a ladder at sea.

The camera is pretty much perfect. I can't think of any time throughout the course of the game when it got in the way. When the camera is automatically maneuvering it stays where you need it to but because the camera is easy to move with the C-stick you'll find it becomes second nature to move it right where you need to without it interrupting your gameplay. I've also got Ocarina of Time on Wii's Virtual Console and have been playing it as well along with Wind Waker. OoT's camera, while good, has nothing on WW's camera. In WW you can zoom out as much as you want, rotate the camera as fast as you want, get in front of link to see what's behind you, etc. The camera has truely been perfected in Wind Waker.

Now the reviews bash Wind Waker for being "too easy". It is a little easy but is that a bad thing? A game can easily discourage a player from playing by being too hard. How many games have we played that have been ridiculously hard and we just say "forget this" and it goes to the game graveyard? Personally I'm in it for the story and not how many times I have to die to beat a boss. Wind Waker keeps you consumed with the story at all times. I think the difficulty was very acceptable. The game will still give you 20 to 40 hours of gameplay depending on if you want to just finish it or get all the items like Pieces of Heart or treasure maps.

The dungeons were very large but my only gripe was that there weren't more of them. But that could be because I'm used to the standard 6+ dungeons in previous Zelda games. There are only two major "temples" in Wind Waker but there are smaller dungeons that keep you happy.

All things said this is one of the best Zelda games to date. It's extremely fun to play, the controls are excellent, camera is practically perfect, music is as always top notch, and the story is great. A must have!

  Awesome game
Review created: 08/09/06

Legend if Zelda: Wind Waker has a hard time appealling to people because quite a lot of the "cool" gamers think it looks too childish. I don't see where they're coming from at all; the cel-shaded graphics are different, not childish. And what's more is that about 20 games after this also use this same art style, including the new Okami. Looking past the graphics, you will find a huge plot, deep combat system, and immense world. The only downfall to having such a large world is that, without the transporting song, you will be sailing for 10 minutes to reach your destination. Once you have learned the song, then it's no hassle. The way you conduct melodies is pretty ingenious, fully utilizing the C-Stick. Finally, this game has an amazing ending, the best one I've ever seen in any game. I nearly cried of joy when I beat it.

Overall, this is a great game that everyone needs to play. If you don't like the graphics at first, don't worry - you'll get used to them in time, and towards the end of the game you'll even appreciate them.

When I first saw the commerical for this game, way back before I even DREAMED of having a GC, I thought. MAN this game is gunna ROXX0R my B0XX0RZ! (Even though I don't have any o_O O_o) The commercial had PEOPLE portraying the Zelda characters. I thought that was really cool.

I got this game along with my GC on my 16th birthday last year. I was like "YES! NEW ZELDA" I was excited because I loved OoT, but I was completely stuck on it. So i put it in and played it. I found out it was a game that started on a beach. Alright. I don't really like beach games/ games involving water alot... but it probably wont last long. (Kingdom Hearts anyone?)

Another thing I didn't like about it was it's graphics. It's kinda like.. um. Wow. Weird shading going on. I don't really like it.

So I go on with the game and oh. As soon as i get my sword it practicly flies away and I have to do this stealthy thing to get it back. So im kinda aggrivated. This isnt like previous Zelda games! =( So i get my sword back and all that jazz.. and I get to the Wind Waker.. You know.. the little boat thing... and I sailed around in that.. Unable to find where I was to go.. I think at this point i gave my game to my brother and gave up. I don't like games involving a lot of water. It's easy for me to get lost.

As I did with Mario 64, i gave this a 3/5. Because it's Zelda. You cant give Zelda a bad score. lol.

And probably many people will disagree with me on this one too.. But this is my review with my personal experiences with the game and will not necisarily have the same effect on you that it did on me.

  Fantastic!!!!

This game is one of the best and most addictive RPG titles of the last 20 years. It is hands down the best of
the series, up to the point of it's release. There have since been other titles that I have not played, so it
is the latest installment that I have played. The game play is fantastic and the controls are easy to learn and
remember. The look of the game is very different than all of the previous titles and as far as cel-shading
looks similar to "Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2" for PS2. The play is typical for the Zelda games and
is in many ways a trip down memory lane for players of the Nintendo 64 titles, except better graphics and a very
different type of story. In this game, Link spends a lot of time sailing around the oceans going from Island
to Island piecing together the story of what happened to the Princess. Imagine if you will Zelda meets OnePiece.
For those of you who don't know OnePiece, replace it with Pirates of the Caribbean and that should give you
the general idea. This seemed a strange concept for a Zelda game at first, but after playing it I was addicted fully
and played no other games for weeks, and I don't stop playing other games to focus on just one... A.D.D.
But this one held my attention and I am forever going to love this game.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

I actually re-bought this title originally produced for the Gamecube system when I bought a Wii. This was the first video game for me to truly realize the artistic value of games. There was a lot of initial backlash against the visual aesthetic of The Wind Waker but I received it as a vision of creativity and inspiration. The emotions of the character are well conveyed as well as the ability to really interact with your surroundings which was ever expanding with the Zelda franchise. It is an engaging, challenging and completely satisfying game. I beat the entire thing without a guide because I truly wanted to triumph as this character. Here I am again, 5 years later re visiting a very important part of Nintendo history. Enjoy.

I admit, I was first turned off when I saw Link sized down to a pint, but when I finally played it, size didn't seem to matter! It was fun (although sneaking through Forsaken Fortress without the sword can be a royal pain), and despite it's cheap-looking style, it ran so smoothly that it no longer seemed like a real game. Some of the things are a big-time annoyance (Wind Temple and that Cave of Ordeals thing), but overall, enjoyable performance. Currently, I'm trying to find the Triforce charts and that's no easy task. Everything has a degree of challenge, but it's worth it. I recommend this to other Legend of Zelda fans. I hope its sequel (Phantom Hourglass) doesn't dissapoint!

  Zelda With A New Twist
Review created: 24/08/06
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Let's get one or two things out of the way - Does it really matter that this version of Zelda has an anime style of graphics to it? - No, graphics do not make a great game. Sure, with the capbilities of the GameCube (see Resident Evil 4 for proof) we were expecting something pretty detailed, but that doesn't change the fact that this is still a fun game. Some people complain about having to use the baton all the time to manuever...I think it's fun. See, for those who don't know, this game is much different than previous games. For starters, the story has a bit of a twist to it. I won't give much away, but let's just say that you're not actually Link, just some kid who looks like him - the story takes many twists and turns from there, but it's really developed and well written. This new adventure lets you explore a vast sea and many small to medium sized islands along the way. You ride a little vessel and in order to move in the direction you wish, you can use the baton to magically alter the wind's direction...it's a nifty little trick. It's fun to explore the sea, because there are many secrets along the way. Having to explore an uncharted island (don't worry, you make a map as you go) makes the game so much more fun. Other than those major differences it's still a Zelda game. You'll explore dungeons, solve little puzzles here and there, probably end up lost or stuck looking for something, but it's lots of fun. The game is pretty long...someone said they beat it in one sitting...well, they either had the book to help guide them or they sat there for about 24 straight hours playing this game. So don't go based on the premise that since it can be beaten in one sitting, that it must be short - because you'll be wrong when you sit down and play this game for several days. The music is standard for a Zelda game, controls are very easy to undersand since they put a small diagram in the upper left corner - It's an all around enjoyable game, a true staple in the series and enjoyable for just about everyone. Even my friends who have no interest in most Zelda games found themselves playing this title just because of how unique it really was. A great play!
